We recognise that the first five years of a Child’s life lay the foundation for future learning. Early Education contributes to the growth of capable and confident children, who can communicate, learn and work with others. Leap Ahead is a special place in the community, that is safe, secure and stimulating, where children can learn through play.
Leap Ahead’s low stress learning environment is influenced by the socio-cultural perspectives of Te Whāriki, by using intentional teaching and extending on the children’s current working theories. Kaiako recognise the value of Ako, spontaneous play and self-initiated learning opportunities that enable the children time to discover, explore, experiment and build on relationships. Equitable outcomes for all are promoted at Leap Ahead and children are empowered to take increased responsibility for the well-being of themselves, others and the environment. We acknowledge parents and whanau are children’s first educators and we believe are an integral part of their Child’s learning journey. Whanaungatanga practices help us work collaboratively and respectfully together to enrich and promote a positive sense of self identity for all.
We value the dual heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand in accordance with the Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We use Manaakitanga in which teachers demonstrate respect and integrity towards the protection of everything Maori, encouraging the participation of Maori learners and working in partnership with Maori as Tangata Whenua. Our daily programme embraces all cultures within Aotearoa and these are respected and naturally woven through routines, languages, music, art and stories.
As a centre we advocate the importance of achieving smooth and successful transitions where children gain a sense of belonging while being supported, comforted and guided by teachers, parents and whanau. Children gain skills and attributes within their learning environment that nurture their emotional, social, cognitive and physical abilities that open pathways for future learning.
Me mahi tahi tatou mo te oranga o te katoa We should work together for the well-being of everyone
